Technical expertise, human values, and strong relationships: these are the three pillars behind the success of Unifrigo Gadus, a seafood canning company founded in 1878 and today listed in the Italian Register of Historic Enterprises. Thanks to this vision, the company has doubled its turnover in just ten years, reaching €42 million.
On these foundations, pursuing Gender Equality Certification UNI/PDR 125:2022 was a natural decision. This new milestone strengthens a path of shared sustainability, already started in 2023 with Progetto25, the three-year strategy developed in partnership with the University of Naples Parthenope.
“We believe that every individual, with their uniqueness, is a valuable resource,” said CEO Andrea Eminente, sixth generation of the founding family. “That is why we have chosen to build a company where women’s contribution is recognized and valued, and where a young and motivated team can grow and make a difference. We are proud to have a dynamic team that shares our values of respect, collaboration, and responsibility.”
Today, nearly 40% of the workforce is female, including in key positions such as production and quality management. Significantly, about 45% of female employees are under 35, proving the company’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of professionals.
Unifrigo Gadus’ decision to invest in people’s well-being and gender equality fits within a broader ESG sustainability strategy, which will culminate in 2025 with the company’s first Sustainability Report. “Most importantly,” Eminente highlights, “it’s a choice supported by market research and company data: numbers clearly show that gender is a meaningful variable that can positively influence process quality and overall business performance.”
This is not a random choice, but one driven by a forward-looking vision of the seafood canning industry, its evolving markets, and the people whose needs are constantly changing.
The company also invests in social innovation and inclusion. Unifrigo Gadus has long been part of integration programs for political refugees from Moldova, Albania, Morocco, and Ukraine, providing them with both Italian language training and professional skills to enter the national labor market.
So, who deserves the credit for Unifrigo Gadus’ success? “The entrepreneur is certainly important,” concludes Eminente. “But let’s be clear: no one can achieve results alone. My priority is to create a workplace where people are happy to give their best. The company’s growth is the result of the loyalty and dedication of my colleagues. Without them, none of these achievements would have been possible.”
